This is a site about learning to make bread. I want to help you learn how to make your best bread.

Let’s get started baking

Start with the basics.

You can jump into bread making at any point or any skill level of baking. You don’t have to have any special skills or equipment. If you have a bowl and the ingredients, you can make great bread. Start with French bread. I liken it to practicing scales if you are learning to play the piano. If you can make French bread, you can make any bread.

Work on your dough.

The more you make bread, the easier and fun it becomes. As you get used to handling dough, you’ll explore higher hydration breads, find a variety of shapes to make and understand the foundations of breadmaking. But you have to practice. One try does not help you learn. You have to do it often. Make lots of different breads but come back to ones you have made before.

Go to the next level.

After you have some facility with bread mixing and shaping, you might want to expand your knowledge to include vienoisserie. This would be things like croissant, Danish, brioche and other longer fermented rich breads. These are not that much harder to make but do take a lot of patience to bring out the flavor, texture and beauty of the dough. Are you ready to get started?
